Notts Forest vs Reading – Championship

Saturday 22nd April 15:00, The City Ground

Match Preview and Betting Tips

Thanks to a Blackburn Rovers win last weekend, Notts Forest are now just a single point above the drop zone with 3 games to play. Things don’t get any easier for Forest tomorrow as they play host to an in form Reading side looking for a win that would cement their play-off place.

The hosts have now won just one of their last six, but that victory did arrive at home against one of the other play-off hopefuls Huddersfield Town. Reading are aiming for a third straight win in the league and appear to have fully recovered from their 7-1 mauling at Norwich a few weeks ago.

I’m expecting this game to be fairly close, but Reading have the better side and far more confidence so really should be picking up 3 points tomorrow. The only things going in Forest’s favour is the home advantage and a motivation to pick up the points needed to keep this famous club in the second tier of English football.

Personally I can’t see Forest getting the win they so dearly need on Saturday, instead my money is going on a narrow away win for Reading with under 2.5 goals being scored. Kermorgant leads the line for Reading and top scores in the league for the Berkshire club, so it makes sense to back the ageing Frenchman to score first tomorrow.

Notts Forest vs Reading Stats

Forest and Reading have only met 25 times before, which came as surprise to me considering just how much Championship football the pair have played over the last 20 years.

When the sides met in Berkshire for their reverse league fixture in October, Reading ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.

McCleary opened the scoring after 10 minutes and that proved enough to hand the hosts a half time lead, despite Forest creating a number of decent chances themselves.

Shortly after the hour mark a former Notts Forest player came back to haunt them with the goal that wrapped up 3 points for Reading, as Welsh full back Gunter netted a rare goal.

Forest had their chances but failed to convert any of them and paid the biggest price of all, defeat.
