Brighton vs Man City – Premier League
Saturday 12th August 17:30, The American Express Community Stadium
Match Preview and Betting Tips
Brighton Premier League debut begins with a baptism of fire as they play host to former champions Manchester City.
The pair go head to head in Saturday’s late kick-off, and I’m expecting a fantastic atmosphere at the AmEx as Brighton play their first ever Premier League game.
City have signed Benfica goalkeeper Ederson, Portuguese international Bernardo Silva and Tottenham right back Kyle Walker, so there is added expectation for their challenge for the title.
Brighton will naturally be looking to just avoid relegation, and while Newcastle are the best placed of the newly promoted sides to achieve that target, the Seagulls should be strong at home and stand a chance of staying out of the bottom three.
City head into the game as the clear form favourites with five wins and one defeat from their last six matches, and I fully expect this game to be an education for the hosts.
Life in the Premier League isn’t easy and I’m backing Man City to win, both teams to score, and over 3.5 goals to be scored in the 90 minutes.

Brighton vs Man City Head to Head
The Seagulls have played Manchester City 13 times before, and there isn’t much between the pair in the head to head record.
In 2008 Brighton and Man City were drawn against one another in the League Cup 2nd Round, and the Seagulls gave their guests a really good game which went all the way to penalties.
After a goalless first half it was the Premier League side who took the lead via Fernandes’ 64th minute effort, but an 89th minute strike from Glen Murray made sure the game went into extra time.
Anyinsah put the hosts in front to the surprise of the away fans with a 95th minute goal, but Ireland struck a equalise in the 108th minute to make sure the game was decided by penalties.
Brighton used the home advantage and won the shoot-out to cause one of the shocks of the round, and claim a famous victory.
